Athenry Soccer Club is committed to promote and foster the game of soccer in the local community, liaising with local community groups, the Football Association of Ireland, Connacht Football Association and Galway Football Association. Athenry Soccer Clubs Last Man Standing competion is now over. Eddie Fitsimons and Jamie Brennan won €500 each after agreeing to share first prizes. A new competition will start on the weekend of the 4th of February. Click Here for Details

Athenry Soccer Clubs 40th birthday party took place in the Raheen Woods hotel. A great night was had by all. Thanks to the Raheen Woods Hotel for the excellent food and hospitality.

News
Athenry seniors bounced back to beat St Johns from Sligo to reach the last 16 of the Connacht cup. Conor Cannon got an excellent hat trick with his younger cousin Alan O' Donovan also scoring from a free kick. Athenry play Manor Rangers at home in the next round. The seniors were also extremely unlucky to go out of the FAI Junior cup to Milford on penaltie in the last 32 of the Irish cup in Donegal. The game finished 0-0 with Athenry down to 9 men after 2 very dubious sending offs to 10 man Milford. Athenry still dominated the game with Benny Lawless and Conor Cannon coming closest to scoring. Athenry lost 7-6 on penalties with Alan O' Donovan, Conor Cannon, Gary Delaney, Stephen Rabbitte, Ray Moran and Dave McDonagh all scoring from the spot. Athenry B team had a good 2-1 win against Claregalway in the Lillis cup. Athenry were unlucky not to be 2-0 up after 20 minutes after Gary Coffey twice and Emmett Byrne went close. Athenry went 1-0 down after conceding from a corner. Athenry kept the pressure up and from a Colm Kilkelly corner Sean Flaherty scored. Athenry won the game in the second half when Gary Coffey scored from another excellent Colm Kilkelly corner. Mark Lawless, Gary Coffey and David Ward all went close for Athenry with keeper Michael Gannon making a fine save as Athenry held on for a win. Athenry reserve team lost to Galway Hibs.
Both Athenry under 14 teams lost in the knock out cup with Athenry A unlucky to lose 1-0 away to Corrib Celtic. Athenry B lost away to Cois Farraige.

Galway Teams
Well done to senior players Alan ‘O Donovan, Seamie Crowe and Benny Lawless on their selection on the Galway squads. We have 18 boys aged 12 to 14 in at the Galway FA emerging talent trials. We also have 9 girls aged 12 to 16 in at the above trials. Well done to Angela Dempsey, Kate O' Hara and Lauren Whyte who have been selected on the Galway under 12 girls panel. Well done also to Adam Kellegher, Christopher Burke and Cillian Lawless who have been selected on the Galway under 12 boys panel.

Congrats to senior player Ronan Kineen and his wife Lisa on the birth of their son Noah and to Colin Bane and Sarah Shannon on the birth of their son Logan and to Mark Cobey and Karen Fortune on the birth of their daughter Kelly. Congrats to Alan and Elaine O' Donovan on the birth of their daughter Katie Ann.
